Israeli participation causes controversy for the ATCE

The subject of Israeli driver's participation in MEKC 2008 was brought up against the Automobile & Touring Club of Egypt (ATCE). The accusation has caused huge controversy in the media and among the Club of Judges where the current chairman of the ATCE, Counselor Mokbel Shaker, current Head of the Egyptian High Court is one of its most senior members.
Whilst this issue almost was the centre stage of press conference the reality was some less controversial and more straight forward. Counselor Mokbel Shaker confirmed the non participation of any Israeli drivers be they under the Israeli or Palestinian identity for 1st round of MEKC. This information was baseless and inaccurate, as was made clear by the drivers register for the championship which was presented at the press conference. This controversy can source it's beginning from the fact that Israeli drivers participating in the international Pharoes Rally held last October 2007 in Egypt.
