The inaugural Middle East Karting Cup series reaches it's exciting climax this weekend at the superb Ghibli Raceway circuit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The MEKC is fully sanctioned by the CIK-FIA, the governing body of world karting. Ghibli Raceway is the premier kart circuit in the Middle East, holding a CIK-FIA Grade "B" license one of a handful of circuits built to the highest homologation standards of the CIK-FIA. |

9 different nations and 3 continents (Africa, Asia and Europe) are represented at the Final Round, evidence that this new series on the world karting scene, has captured the imagination of the kart racers not only here in the Middle East, but much further a field.
It's European drivers Kevin Reichard (Austria) and Piero De Marchi (Italy) who lead the field in the Senior category, and following victories in the Finals here at Ghibli Raceway in Round 1 and at Dubai Autodrome in Round 2, Kevin Reichard will start as the hot favorite. Piero trails Kevin, but it only takes a mistake to change the current situation, with Hamza Dirani who is looking to make up on the disappointing performance in Dubai following Piero in the wings.
However in the Junior class Pierre Georges representing Syria leads the championship standings from Othman Abu Samrah (Jordan) and Mazen Badawi (Egypt) so there is a strong likelihood of the first Middle East Karting Cup Junior champion being from the region. This category bodes well for the future years of the Middle East Karting Cup and we can expect one of these young characters to make it in the near future in top international motor sports.
A large round is expected for Friday's Heats and Saturday Finals, and they can look forward to more entertainment in the Charity Celebrities Race which is included in the official race program which is being co-organised by Melody TV.
Hany Soufrakis, Promoter of the Middle East Karting Cup can be justifiable proud of having launched this exciting new series on the world karting calendar. "Also relieved that we got it on", - he said at the briefing on Wednesday morning. "Many obstacles have been overcome and we know that the championship will grow as several other countries are officially interested in taking part next year", he added.
Qualifying practice is on Thursday afternoon with the Heat on Friday. Saturday is Finals Day with the added bonus of the Charity Celebrity Race. Hope to see you all there, it shouldn’t be missed. |
